Konbit: Music, food, dance and coming together.
Once a year, on a Saturday in October, we celebrate Konbit. The community hall of the Schlosskirche in Düsseldorf-Eller becomes a Haitian stage. There is live music, Haitian food, dancing with a DJ and plenty of conversation. Konbit has been our cultural festival for many years.

An old Haitian word for working together.
In the mountains of Haiti, the whole neighborhood lends a hand when a roof needs repairing or a field needs harvesting. This neighborly help is called Konbit. We celebrate this tradition in Düsseldorf.
From Haiti to Düsseldorf.
“Konbit” is Kreyòl for “collective work.” The word comes from a tradition in the mountains of Haiti: when someone planted, harvested or repaired a roof, the neighbors came to help. They danced, sang and ate together.
Since 1991, Haiti-Med has celebrated Konbit every year as a cultural festival in Germany. There is live music, Haitian food, dancing with a DJ, drumming and poetry. Above all, Haitian women and men from the diaspora meet here with people from Düsseldorf.
There was no Konbit only during the COVID years from 2020 to 2022. Otherwise, it has taken place every year in October.
Admission is free. We are grateful for donations to our projects in Haiti, but no one is expected to donate.
The next Konbit in October.
The board will announce the date and programme shortly before the summer holidays. The current programme for the year will be posted here by September at the latest.
